Heart of England track and field league, Match 2, Kettering. 2011 Print

Once again a small team this time travelled down to Kettering for match No 2 of the Heart of England track and field league.

In the u/11 competition Joe Dodd running in the 600metres came home with a strong finish to take 2nd spot in 2mins 13 secs. Not too far behind and only his 2nd time over this distance and with a bit of a wobbly start came Mathew Smith, his time of 2mins 23.8 secs was good enough to take seconds off his pb. Our third runner was Aaron Gallagher (1st time over this distance) started extremely well but ran out of steam towards the final stages, never the less well done Aaron in finishing (we look forward to the next one).

In the u/11 girls 600 we could only manage 1 runner today Louise Gallagher, she finished roughly half way down the field, finishing with a time 4 seconds quicker than in her 1st match.

The youngsters then moved across to the long jump pit, Joe 3.10 metres, Mathew 2.51metres (pb) and Louise 2.92 metres. Their 3rd event of the afternoon was the 75 metre sprint. Joe being the 1st one to run in the boys had some stiff opposition but acquitted himself well. Mathew with his short stride battled valiantly while Aaron was still feeling the effects of his 600 run. In the girls race Louise was a little bit slow away and finished with a time of 14.3 seconds.

Finally to finish the day for the u//11’s there was the mixed 4x100. Mathew ran 1st leg, Joe ran a strong 2nd leg, Louise battled around the final bend, while Aaron brought the baton safely home.

Moving up to the u/13 competition our first runner was Joe Humphries in the girls 1500 metres. The first 3 laps she contested the lead with a girl from Kettering, however over the final 300 the opposition was a little bit to strong.

Tom Dodd was next up in this age group over 800 metres. Tom made light work of his opposition coming home comfortably in 1st spot. Sabrina Gallagher and Jamie Mills were next up over 100 metres. Sabrina knowing she’s not our quickest  runner still however stepped onto the starting line and gave it her best shot. Jamie came 2nd in his race although not really wanting to do this event. Nearly forgot Tom also ran over 100 and drawn on the inside lane ran strongly for 2nd spot. Back to Sabrina and Jamie now doing long jump, this is Jamie’s event and he managed a 3.43 metre jump while Sabrina scored good points again for us. Jo is back up again this time over 200, drawn in the outside lane she is not being very positive before the race but battles gamely to the finish. Unable to keep a good man down, Tom also goes over 200 coming up with a time of 29.0 seconds.

Unfortunately this probably turns out to be Tom’s last run for the club  as he is looking to better himself with another club.

U/15’s next, only 1 competitor Jonty Mills (not looking forward to his events). His 100 finds himself up against some tough opposition, however, he’s travelled this far so he gives a reasonable performance. A little while later he steps up for the 200 metres and drawn in the inside lane he uses his large stride  to get himself to the finishing line in 30.7 seconds.

Lewis Gallagher got his afternoon off to a terrific start in the u/17 shot competition, a throw of 11.31 metres comfortably won him this event well over a metre further than his pb. Lewis continued with the good work again taking 1st spot this time with a 34.21 metre javelin throw.

Finally we move to the u/17-senior women section and a very BIG thank you to Dawn Gallagher (mom) and Dawn Gallagher (senior) for their contribution in this section and the points they scored for the Club.
