Warwickshire County Track and Field Champs, 14/15 May 2011, Pingles Stadium, Nuneaton. Print
Five of our junior members travelled across to Nuneaton for these early season championships.

Day 1.

Joanne Humphries and Katy Williams are the first to go over 800 metres in the under 13 girls age group. For both girls it is the first time over this race distance. Katy lines up in lane 5 while Jo is drawn in lane 8 alongside a girl from the Coventry Godiva club. Both girls make a reasonable start and at the break point are tucked in half way down the field. At the bell Jo goes through in 82 seconds while Katy clocks 86 second lap. Lap 2 and the field is getting well spread out, Joanne is moving in on the leaders as they round the last bend, down the home straight she now tussles with the leader for 1st spot. Both girls record a time of 2mins 46.9 seconds with Jo taking 2nd spot. Meanwhile Katy battles on after a sticky patch between 4 & 600 hundred to finish strongly in 3 mins 04.2 seconds.

Day 2.

Joe Dodd gets today started in the under 11 boys Quad event: 75 metre sprint, long jump, javelin (howler) and a 600metre run over a 4 hour period. Joe recorded a 12.6 sprint, 3.10 metre jump, a winning 30 metre throw and a 2 min 15.7 distance run.

Joanne is back again this time over 1500 metres, again first time over the distance .As she steps on to the start line she is very nervous as she's also racing against older and taller girls. A creditable performance with a storming final 100 metres brings her home 10th off 15 in 5 mins 41.1 secs.

Now its older brother Tom Dodd in the under 13 boys 800 metres. A disappointingly small field makes this a easy victory for Tom in a slightly slow time of 2 mins 34.8, however CHAMPION for 2011.

Remy Barrett (dicky knee as well) now lines up in the first heat of the under 17 womens 100 metres, an impressive 12.5 brings her home comfortably in first spot and forward to the final. After a short recovery she takes her mark again, normally a very good starter Remy puts herself under pressure straight away with a slightly slower reaction to the gun.3rd in 12.6 is a good time for a first year under 17.

After a couple of hours rest Tom Dodd goes again over 200 metres this time, a slightly disappointing 29.1 brings him home 4th.

Well done to those who competed and well done Tom Dodd under 13 boys 800 metre champion 2011.
