Training nights:  Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 until approximately 8:30. If not racing, distance runners train at Swanshurst Park on Sundays from 10:30 to approximately 11:30.

Training fees:  First training evening is free and, thereafter, you pay £1.00 per session.

Membership subscription (from 1st October for full year - those joining later pay an appropriate amount):  We suggest that you try up to four sessions first before committing to becoming a member. When you decide to join, it costs £20.00 for each child per year, for the first two children in a family; £10 per child thereafter. Application forms are available on this website as well as at the Club.
Membership entitles you to train and - at no extra charge (except for some additional track and field meetings) - take part in club-organized events and compete for the Club at cross-country and track and field meetings.

Competition:  During the winter season, our junior athletes compete in the West Midland Young Athletes Cross-Country League (, while, during the summer season, they compete in the Heart of England Athletics League (
Juniors can also take part in the Warwickshire, Midland and National Cross-Country Championships as well as the Midland and National Cross-Country relays. In addition, they are encouraged to take part in other track and field meetings during the summer season.
In December, Sparkhill Harriers’ junior and senior runners take part in the “Christmas Handicap” - an informal and fun cross-country event organized by the Club - and, during the summer, a fun evening is arranged on the track for juniors and seniors.

Age groupings:  For cross-country events, the age groups are as at midnight on 31st August prior to the season. For track and field events, U15s shall be confined to competitors who are ages 13 or 14 on 31st August, within the competition year; U11s, U13s and U17s follow the same pattern.                                                                                                                                                                            

Awards Evening: Awards for Sparkhill Harriers’ athletes are presented at the end of the cross-country season, along with the previous year’s track and field awards.

HoE Young Athletes T&F League, Match#1, Sun 10/06/12, Kidderminster and Stourport Print


Match No 1, Sunday 10th June at the Kidderminster and Stourport Track

Under 13 runner, Erica Hygate kicked off the day’s events with a gallant effort, battling bravely to finish the 1500m race despite still suffering from a bug she had picked up earlier in the week.

In the Under 11 girls group, both Louise Gallagher and Katriana Lightfoot achieved PBs in the long jump. Next came the 600m; a late arriving Tasleemah Khan flew round the first 100m, while club mate Emma Stringer controlled herself. Tasleemah suffered in the 2nd half of the race, while Emma came through to pass Tas on the final 100 meters. In the 75 metre sprint Kat stormed down the straight to take ½ a second off her PB.

The two Under 11 boys both did well; Matthew Smith ran a very good 600m, while a very young Tom Mills acquitted himself very well in his events.

The U/11 mixed relay team of Tom, Kat, Louise and Matthew ran well to finish 2nd in this event.

Match No1 took place on Sunday 9th October at Sandwell valley country park in conditions which our track athletes would have appreciated.Our 14 runners had to negotiated probably the hardest course of this new season (very up and down).
Heart of England track and field league, Match 3, Kidderminster. 2011 Print

Match No3 of the Heart of England track and field league (div 3 ), took place on Sunday Sept;3rd at Kidderminster.Again a small team of athletes travelled to the venue to represent the club.
