Leader development day 8th October Print

From Stephanie Cameron at England Athletics

A reminder that our first workshop of the new season is due to take place this Saturday 8th of October at the alexander Stadium. It is set to be an exciting day which I am certain can benefit each and every one of you.
There has been a slight change in the venue due to some water damage from the bad weather last Saturday. The workshop will now be based on the other side of the stadium on the first floor. I have attached a map which should explain this better but it will be signposted on the day. In terms of parking for the new venue they is parking outside the stand as well as to the side. On the attached map I have marked in red the route to parking. So I hope it makes sense.
We still have places available if any should wish to book themselves or other on.
We have an exciting agenda for the day which I am sure you will all enjoy. Timings for the day are as follows:
10-11: training methods theory: Fartlek, Interval, Hills (Chris hollinshead UKA tutor and coach)
11-12: Nutrition: pre-race and race day nutrition (Professor Ian White UoB)
12-1: Race preparation (Chris hollinshead UKA tutor and coach)
1-3: Run Together Roadshow (Jenny O’brien, Andy Anstey)
The first session ( training theory) will involve a practical element. So please come appropriately dressed for physical exercise. If you are carrying any illness or injury you are not obliged to take part and are more than welcome to take notes and observe from the side-lines.
We endeavour to deliver quality sessions that improve knowledge of leader and coaches and by having guest speakers who are specialists in their field I believe everyone can get something from the development days.
Because this is a slightly longer workshop we will be providing lunch as well as drinks and refreshments. And as always have some goodies for you to take away.
If you have already booked onto the workshop there is no need to confirm your place.
If you would like to book yourselves or others on please just drop me an email.
Kind Regards
Stephanie Cameron

An Evening of Endurance - Monday 17th November, 1830, UoB Print

From our friends at the University of Birmingham:

Hello,

I hope you don’t mind me contacting you about our workshop next Monday, run in conjunction with our partners Physiokinetic.  I think you/your club may find it relevant and a cost effective way of finding out a little bit about sports science and what the Hi Performance Centre at UBSport actually do!

The format of the session is:

·         Refreshments will be served from 1800 for a 1830 start for this 2 hour session.

·         25 minute slots on 3 of the following topics: endurance psychology, sports nutrition, injury prevention and laboratory testing.

·         The last half an hour is a panel discussion / Q+A session with your chance to quiz our experts.

The workshop is open to endurance athletes from all sports – cycling, triathlon, running etc.

The presenters are:

·         Eleanor Jones – A registered sports nutritionist, Eleanor is a multiple National Masters Cycling champion. She’s worked with our scholarship athletes, preparing them for life at university and towards major sporting games like the Commonwealths.

·         Matthew Thompson – Matt’s a fairly new addition to our team, but we’re really glad to have him. He’s a sport psychologist, having worked with pro teams such as Derby County Cricket and Newcastle Falcons (rugby). He’s not too bad at cricket either.

·         Alex McGregor – Alex is a specialist in the training and testing of athletes. He’s also really into his environmental stuff, so if you’re planning on doing anything crazy like the Marathon des Sables or even an altitude camp, he’s your guy.

·         Mike Gosling – Mike is our uber experienced physiotherapist. Mike owns Physiokinetic (www.physiokinetic.co.uk) and specialises in the treatment of sporting injuries. He’s also really unique because he works alongside our team trying to prevent injuries. He has loads of tips and tricks to keep you injury free.

The cost is £3/£5 and tickets are available online here: http://shop.bham.ac.uk/browse/extra_info.asp?compid=1&modid=1&catid=413&prodvarid=242

Hope to see you on the night,

Eleanor Jones
