1st fixture vets track and field league Print

The first meeting in the vets track and field league will be held at the Alan Moreton track, Stourport, DY13 8BQ on Thursday 30th April. If you've never competed on the track before don't be afraid, come and have a go. The timetable is below. If you don't want to compete, you can always help the club by being an official and watching the meeting at the same time.

If you are going to run, jump, throw, can you let me know which events you wish to be entered for as the organisers would like a team sheet e-mailed before the day itself. This does not mean you cannot enter on the night.

Continuing Success for Graham Roberts Print
As well as featuring in recent articles in the Birmingham Mail and Solihull Times, Graham has continued to compete in national and international throwing events through the Summer.

In August he competed in the British Masters event in Birmingham, coming first in the Weight event and second in the Hammer (male 80).

On Saturday 26 September 2014, Graham competed in the World Hammer Decathlon  in Derby, again in the M80 category.

Success at Vet's Athletics Cup Final Print

I am pleased to announce that Sparkhill Harriers won the 'B' cup final for the vets track and field league held at the Alexander Stadium on Saturday 15th September. After competing in events lasting all day, Sparkhill scored 185 points and won by the narrow margin of 5 points from Telford AC (180 points). It was so close that the announcement of the win didn't take place until 6.15pm with both teams staying at the end as neither of us knew for certain the final result.

Congratulations to all of the athletes who took part, each individual contributed to the win and on the day, if only one athlete had not competed in one event, the result would have been different. The athletes who made up the team were Mick Edwards, Mike Westwood, Graham Roberts, Dave Hanson, Rob Mills, John Goulding, Paul Murtagh, Pete Reeves, Simon Willington, David Winter, Hilary Mann and Dawn Gallagher. Not forgetting the officiating duties of John & Mollie Mills, Graham Heeley, Ambrose Turney throughout the season.

From a personal point of view it proves what I have always said - the club has talented vet athletes and the club should compete as a team on a more regular basis in vet competitions.

Thanks to all athletes and officials who have turned out during the season and well done on a great conclusion to the season.

Tahir has posted  some photos and videos here . Many thanks
