West Midland Young Athletes Cross Country League - 7th December at Warley Woods Print
For the attention of officials:

The course map and details for the above fixture is now on the league’s website. Can I repeat what it states therein;  there is no parking within the park apart from disabled badge holders. Everyone must park on the surrounding streets. Please pass this on to your athletes and their parents because failure to comply could mean we will be unable to use this venue in the future.

BBC South Today Unsung Hero Award 2014: Bernie Wilkins. Print
Those of you who have been members of the club for a few years may remember Bernie Wilkins who was a popular road and cross country runner especially during the 1970s. Although Bernie moved to work near Abingdon, he still represented the club in races for years afterwards. Bernie has just won the BBC South Today Unsung Hero Award 2014 for his coaching work with Abingdon Amblers A.C. and will be part of the audience at the Sports Personality of the Year in Glasgow. There are still some of us running who made the annual trip across the channel in November organised by Bernie to run around the castle town of Guerande in Northern France. Bernie's fluent French was very useful, especially during interviews on the local radio station and stays with local families.
Well done Bernie.

Children in need triathlon event at Fox Hollies Print
On Friday 14th Nov (Children in Need).  Teams of up to 4 can enter (over 16s); it would be great to put a Sparkhill Harriers team in. Note, 5.30pm for briefing then 6pm start.

I understand that it will all be done on site (fixed bikes in sports hall, 10k run on site around track).

I would be very happy to run the 10k and help out with some cycling if required.

I am happy to organise our team so can any expressions of interest please come to me asap.

Cross country relays 18 October and 1 November Print
Midland Cross Country Relays on Saturday 18 October 2014
Walsall Arboretum at 2pm
Ladies (6k each leg) - 3 runners per team
Men (6k each leg) - 4 runners per team
English National Cross Country Relays on Saturday 1 November 2014
Ladies (3k each leg) - 3 runners per team starting at 2.05pm
Men (5k each leg) - 4 runners per team starting at 2.40pm
The Midland race on 18 October is a really good introduction to cross country - a fast flat course and a low key event.  Ditch that park run that you do every Saturday and test yourself over a slightly longer course in a different setting.
The English National is on a testing spectator friendly course with lots of atmosphere.  After the National Cross Country Championship this is the highest quality race which individuals at a club like ours can take part in.  Traditionally we try to send two teams from the men but it is now some years since we sent a ladies' team.  I'd like us to put out a Ladies' team this year.
If you are interested in running one or both please let me know by close on 9 October.  I'll be at the club on Tuesday if you want more information.
