WMYACCL need helpers (Young Athletes Cross Country League) Print

From Philip Woodyatt at the WMYACCL :

Hello all. Philip Woodyatt here from WMYACCL again. Collating accurate results is one the most important things in an our league. This takes a dedicate team of volunteers. However they need help. We are looking for people who can operate the Video and bar code readers at the finishing funnel at some or all the fixtures. The reasoning behind this is at the start of fixtures the results team have a lot to do. So if we had people in place to do these Jobs it would save time having to explain to new people how to use the equipment. So please send the message around your clubs.

The more people we have on results the better (I have done Bar coding - If I can do it anyone can).

Many Thanks

Probably best to see Rob Mills if you can help.

Wales Trip 2016 Print
Wales Trip 2016 open to ALL senior members. A mixture of off road running, walking, cycling, swimming and socialising. Dates arrive Thursday 6th October 3pm and depart Sunday 9th October 3pm. We stay at The Ty Mawr hotel in Llanbedr North Wales between Harlech and Barmouth. Three nights accommodation bed breakfast and evening meal and Sunday lunch all included at a price of £175. It is a most enjoyable trip enjoyed by club members for 26 years and we would very much like more members to join in the fun. Please speak to Bob Perrin or Gavin Kidman at the club on a Tuesday evening if you are interested in going.
No changing in the Annex Print

As the gym facilities have now been relocated to the main sports hall the centre staff no longer open the changing rooms or toilets in the annex. Those facilities are available in the main centre including dry side changing and showers.

If you do need to use the changing rooms before we set off please give yourselves an extra few minutes to get to and from the centre. Please let the coaches know if this proves to be a problem.

This  situation may however provide some new opportunities. There are a number of Tuesday night sessions that became impractical due to progressively earlier closing of the changing rooms. Since the main centre stays open later we may be able to reinstate some of those sessions during the winter. If people have any preferences then please let Barry or Craig know. Examples might  include those out by Woodside Way or Beechwood Park Rd in Solihull with long runs out and back.

Vets track and field - 25th May 2016, Solihull. Print

The next vets track and field meeting will be taking place on Wednesday 25th May at the Norman Green athletics track at Tudor Grange, Solihull. You can’t get any more local than that! Start time is 7pm. This is a great opportunity to come along and see for yourself what these meetings are all about. These meetings are not as scary or as serious as you may think. So if you fancy taking part for the first time there are events that you can have a go at. Alternatively, the club is at the centre of the organization of the meeting so there are ‘jobs’ to be done on the night that you can volunteer to help with. Or simply come along and watch. Contact Darren or Hilary for more information.

Sparkhill Harrier - National Champion and World Record Holder Print

Owing to a persistent calf injury Grahame Cooper has not been able to run regularly over recent months but fortunately has been able to continue training and competing in his other sport of indoor rowing where he competes at the highest level.  During these events he competes in his Sparkhill colours.

On 12 July 2015 Grahame participated in the Concept 2 Online Challenge when he rowed in the Lighweight Men 80+ category, achieving a distance of 266 metres in one minute.

On 29 January this year Grahame received confirmation from the Concept 2 HQ in the USA that this performance was ratified as a British and World Record.

On 31 January 2016 Grahame competed in the English Rowing Championship at the Manchester Velodrome winning the Gold Medal in the 2000 metres Lightweight Men 80+ category with a time of 8 mins 27.3 secs.

On 13 March 2016 Grahame competed in the World Sprint Challenge (online) in the 1000 metres Lightweight Men 80+ category when he won the Silver Medal with a time of 4 mins 11.6 secs.

As a result of these impressive performances Grahame has been invited to join a team that will be seeking to set a new World Record for rowing 100,000 metres in Newquay on 24 September 2016.

Congratulations to Grahame on these world class performances.
