Great news for Sparkhill Harriers! Print
Following the successful funding bid for refurbishment of the running track and athletics facilities at Foxhollies, the work is about to begin.
The contractors have completed site visits and will start work on Monday 10 June
The work completion date is 30 August 2013.
We will then have a new 6 lane running track (with 8 lane 100 metre straight) as well as a new long-jump pit, a high-jump fan and a practice area for shot putt.
The contractors will have sole access to the site for the duration of the works so we will have no access to the track over this period.
However Ninestiles School -together with Foxhollies Leisure Centre- has very kindly agreed for us to use the large playing field to continue our Summer training and will be marking out a running track on the grass for us.  We will continue to have use of the fitness suite and Sparkhill "office" as usual.
Club nights will therefore continue as usual pending the opening of the new track: delivery and collection times and location for the junior athletes will remain unchanged.

Fox Hollies Open Days Print

The Centre is having an open weekend 11th/12th May and have asked if Sparkhill Harriers would like to be present on either day, to show the athletics club to the public and recruit/generate more members and interest? It seems like a good opportunity to promote our club: is anyone willing and able to attend either/both days (in whole or in part)?
The hours are:

Sat 11 May 8am to 4pm

Sun 12 May 8am to 5pm

There will be representatives from the various clubs, teams, activities that use the centre to try to increase participation among the local community. Rob would like to know who in the club is willing to attend over the open weekend and be available to hand out leaflets and speak to any members of the public who are interested in running/joining (the more people able to attend together with times/day available will enable me to put together a timetable for each individual to provide best coverage)

Rob also suggested the possibility of running a taster session on the Sunday morning. Would anyone be interested in joining in ?

Please let Rob or any other committee member know ASAP

Vets road relays Print

the national vets road relays take place in Sutton Park on Saturday 18th May. Each leg is 3 miles and the following age categories are being run:

W35+ (4 legs)

W45+ (3)

I need to know those who are definitely interested in taking part - this is so we save the club paying entry fees for categories that we do not fill - I will make up teams from those who express an interest to run. Start times are 11am for the ladies and M65, M75 and 1pm for the rest. Entries are required by the end of next week so a quick reply appreciated,

Great News - Track Print
At a recent meeting with members of Birmingham Council, Foxhollies Leisure Centre, Ninestiles School and the Birmingham Athletics Network it was confirmed that the Sport England funding bid to refurbish the track and jumping areas at Foxhollies has been successful.
It is planned that work will commence in the forthcoming Summer school holidays to minimise disruption and facilitate easier access to the site.  Alternative arrangements for club sessions are being arranged for the period that the track is unavailable.
It is anticipated that the Council will be making a public announcement in the near future.
Well done to all Sparkhill Harriers who have supported this bid and contributed to this success.
