Sparkhill O55s Midland relays champs Print

I am very pleased to report that on Sunday 13th April, Sparkhill's O55 relay team won the Midland title at Donisthorpe Woodland Park. On a two lap, 5k traffic free course around the woodland park, Mick Edwards took the team out on the first leg and put Sparkhill into second position with a time of 22mins 05secs. Also running first leg was Gill Millicheap who completed the course in 30mins 46secs. Barry Crowley took over for the 'A' team and maintained Sparkhill's second position with a time of 24mins 37secs, although Leamington in first place extended their lead to over three and a half minutes. Martin Millicheap completed the second leg for our other team in 27mins 10secs but unfortunately did not have a third leg runner to hand over to. Undaunted by the deficit, Rob Mills gave chase and over the two laps overhauled Leamington's last leg runner with just under a mile to go to lead Sparkhill to victory. Rob ran 21mins 31secs (second fastest leg in the age group) with Sparkhill completing the race in 68mins 13secs (Leamington 68mins 38secs).

Well done and thank you to everyone who ran and contributed to a memorable morning. Next up are the national vets road relays in Sutton Park on Saturday 17th May.

Leamington Regency 10k, Sun 6th April 2014 Print
Paul Webster, Mick Edwards and I (Rob Mills) all turned up at the Leamington 10k race yesterday, none of us realising that the others had entered and bumping into each other about 10 mins before the start.

It turned out to be a good pre-Stratford Marathon run-out for Paul and a useful check on the state of my hamstrings for me! But the star of the show was Mick who was second in the MV 60 category with a time around 4 minutes faster than he recorded in last year's race. Impressive running.

Definitely recommended for next year: very well organised, good atmosphere with the first half slowly climbing uphill mainly on tracks while the second half is downhill on good roads/paved surfaces. Good potential for a fast time. And don't does not include the infamous hill!

On Sunday 29th December I went along to Warwick uni for a road race organised by Coventry Godiva,on a crisp and frosty morning we ran 1 small and 2 large laps all within the uni campus conditions under foot were good with a few twists and turns on each lap. A flat course ideal for a PB,I finished 73rd in a field of 136 with a time of 35mins 45sec a nice way to finish 2013 with my fastest time over 5 miles this year.

Sneyd Striders Christmas Pudding Run 10 Mile, Bloxwich Sunday 8th December 2013 Print

Andy Wadsworth writes >

I thought a seasonal run seemed appropriate at this time of year, what could be better than one in the West Midlands offering a Christmas pudding in a goody bag to all finishers. Well organised facilities at a local school and plenty of encouraging marshals around the course.
379 finishers, predominantly club runners with a noticeable international contingent from ASC Drancy in France including one chap who ran baguette in hand. Two laps around a predominantly flat course in ideal conditions for December, slight breeze, pleasant temperature at least for December, and a gradual descent over the last three quarters of a mile to the finsh allowing a long sprint for home and the opportunity to gain a number of places.
Two finishers from Sparkhill
