Road Races
Crowle 10km, Sunday 8th May 2016 Print

Andy Wadsworth writes:

A couple of people had mentioned this race to me in previous years, picture postcard village, great community feel, well organized route, so I decided to take up the challenge. Crowle is a village probably about five miles outside Worcester, and the race is very well supported by local clubs, Black Pear, Worcester, Pershore, Droitwich & Malvern colours were very noticeable, plus one of two others from further afield,

With earlier junior events the 10km does not start until 11:30, which meant running in the heat for the first time this year, making the course tougher than expected.

I was the only Sparkhill runner, and finished as below

 44:28

482 runners took on the course and the hot weather

Enjoyable tea and home made cakes afterwards, and a general friendly and welcoming atmosphere, the village really embraces the event, making this one of the most enjoyable events I have done in recent years, would recommend it highly for future years.

Kenilworth May Day Mayday 10km, May 2nd 2016. Print

Barry writes >

I think the 'Mayday' reference is less to do with the date and more to do with distress calls from runners. This is a hard, off road 10K in Kenilworth's picturesque Abbey Fields with the feel of a cross country race. For the life of me I can't work out why it feels so hard though. The course is 3 laps with 3 significant climbs on each lap but that does not seem enough to justify why it felt so tough. Maybe it has something to do with the exposed nature of the course or the still fresh relay runners pushing you on (they do one lap each). I originally thought I was having a bad day but I was keeping in touch with Tahir for most of the race and not loosing ground on others so I have discounted that. Looking at the results the slow times seemed to be reproduced throughout the field so I don't need to feel too bad. Would I do it again ? Most certainly! Lovely surroundings, very well organized, cheap and really nice atmosphere. BTW, anyone who has ever run the Kenilworth half should realize that Kenilworth runners do not host easy races.
