Cross Country
Pattingham Bells, Sunday 9th October 2016 Print

Andrew Wadsworth writes >

This was the 27th successive year this race had been run, and with so many people telling me it was the running highlight of their year, including some more on Sunday I just had to tackle it. Set in a picturesque village to the west of Wolverhampton almost on the Shropshire border, its a 7 mile 11km undulating run, across fields, forest trails, farm tracks in beautiful countryside. Add to that wonderful weather day for running, this is one event that will live long in the memory.
A good mixture of club runners especially from the Black Country and Shropshire, plus a number from south Birmingham clubs, including Tahir & myself wearing the red and black vest. Tahir has posted some pictures on the clubs Facebook site.

Good preparation for the cross country season, with a mixture of surfaces and inclines to provide a real technical challenge. I should also add, hot drinks and harvest cake at the end, as the runners were welcomed back to the village playing fields by the peals of church bells the run is named after.

Provisional results from the day below

 57
 Tahir Akhtar
 53.10
 88  Andrew Wadsworth 56.07

474 runners completed the race, official results (and photos) published later this week on their own site http://www.pattinghambellsrun.com/

In terms of recommendations, at present it is top of my must do list for 2017 !

Birchfield Poppy Run 10K Trail Race, Aldridge Airport, Sat 8th October 2016 Print

Fabulous course and a great warm-up to the cross country season. Conditions were excellent on the day for the 5 Sparkhill Harriers who ventures over to the far side of Walsall. Many of the seniors will have raced here during the XC season but this course took in more of the surrounding woodland to provide both a scenic and technically demanding course.

Special congratulations  to Jane who finished 2nd lady despite taking a wrong turn at one point and having to retrace  her steps.

Birmingham XC League, Race#4, Plock Court, Sat 13th February 2016 Print

ImageCongratulations on achieving promotion from division 3. Whilst it was always on the cards we still had a job to do and at Plock Court we slipped and squelched over the finish line. Whilst we were missing two of our guaranteed counters in Jonathan and Andy Hussey the depth of squad this season was able to take on the task without problems. Thank you to Andy for making the trip anyway and supporting the team.

We would like to thank and congratulate everyone that was part of making this a very memorable season, We had a massive 26 runners donning the red and black vest over the 4 races and had 11 different counters. Of the 26, 8 did all 4 races and 17 did at least 3. That is phenomenal. Special mention should go to Darren and Nick who counted in all 4 races. It was also great to see debutantes in Jonathan, Eddie, Andy Hussey, Daniel, Dave and Rob Tyler make such an impact plus the unexpected but welcome sight of a returning Pete Concannon.

Thanks as well to all the helpers and supporters - you were invaluable.
